Justin Daniel Poteete – January 1, 2026

Lifetime Lassen County resident Justin Daniel Poteete, hunter & fisherman extraordinaire, passed away on January 1, 2026. Justin was born to Brenda Marie (West) Poteete and Arthur Daniel Poteete, in Susanville, CA on June 27, 1984. Justin attended Janesville School from kindergarten through eighth grade, and he graduated from Lassen High School in 2002. He attended trade school in 2006 at Tulsa Welding School for Welding and Fabrication Technologies, earning 10 separate certifications. He also went to the school of Papa BJ, where he learned automotive mechanics from the 60 years of experience of his papa BJ West.

Justin was a welder & mechanic for 20 years, working for the City of Susanville, Hat Creek Construction, Collins Pines, and his own business American Classic Restoration and Sales including auto mechanics.

Justin’s children were the most important thing to him. His oldest son Logan, daughter Tadem, and son Sandy were the driving force for Justin, every single day. Justin loved to fish, camp and hunt, especially duck and deer, where they made many happy family memories. Justin had a soft spot for his four-legged companions: his dogs, Jake, Wyatt and Dixie especially. He also loved harmonica music and had taught himself to play. Justin had a huge heart and would give the shirt off his back to someone in need. A cousin said of him recently that “he is like the family Labrador – such a big heart and so loveable!” For those he loved, you knew he loved you and that he would protect you with his life!

Justin was proceeded in death by his maternal grandfather Billy Joe (BJ) West; maternal grandmother LeDora (Lea) May (Vindhurst) West; paternal grandfather Herman (Gene) Eugene Poteete.

He is survived by his parents Brenda Marie (West) Poteete and Arthur Daniel Poteete; sister Jolea Marie (Poteete) Clapp; his children Logan Daniel Poteete, Tadem Lynn Poteete, and Sandy Daniel (Sandy Bear) Poteete; his paternal grandmother Viola Fern Poteete; two nephews, many other family members and numerous friends.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, January 11, 2026, at 3:00 pm at the Community Church at 1400 Numa Street in Susanville, CA. Anyone who knew and loved Justin is welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers please donate to the Lassen Sportsman’s Club – Youth Fishing Derby in memory of Justin Poteete at https://greatnonprofits.org/org/lassen-sportsmens
