Two early-morning 911 calls on August 5th, led to the arrest of a 15-year-old male on multiple charges, including Driving Under the Influence, vehicle theft, and hit-and-run. The incident, which involved four juveniles ranging in age from 12 to 15, unfolded in the early hours of the morning on State Route 36 near Chester.
At approximately 1:00a.m., the Susanville Dispatch Center of the California Highway Patrol received a 911 call reporting four juveniles, all believed to be under the influence of alcohol, driving a sedan eastbound on SR-36.
The group was reportedly approaching Chester from the direction of Red Bluff.
CHP units from both Susanville and Chester immediately responded to the area to intercept the vehicle. Shortly after, a second 911 call was received, this time reporting a hit-and-run collision at the Best Western Hotel in Chester.
Officers quickly located the suspect vehicle and the four juveniles not far from the scene of the hit-and-run crash. The 15-year-old driver was subsequently arrested and is facing charges of DUI, vehicle theft, vandalism, and hit-and-run.
The California Highway Patrol expressed its gratitude to the 911 callers.
“We want to thank those 911 callers which assisted us in locating the driver and vehicle,” said Susanville Area CHP Commander Lacey Carney, “enabling us to get an impaired and unlicensed driver off the road before something tragic happened.”
