Karen Kay Amrein December 30, 1942 – December 9,2022

Karen Kay Amrein was born in Salisaw Ok, Karen was the 4th of 5 kids. As an infant, her family moved west to California. While attending High School, Karen met her first husband, Don and they had 2 children, Radonna & John. A few years later, after Don’s passing, Karen met her forever partner, Mark. They married in 1977. Mark brought Brian, Lisa, Gina, and Danny into the mix and together they moved to Lassen County.

Karen and Mark together ran a family restaurant and Construction Co. in Susanville for years. In 1985, Karen joined the Susanville School District as a cook and managed the lunch rooms at both McKinley and Meadow View Schools until accepting a job in the Prison system in 1995. After many years of working, Karen retired in 2001.

For many years, Karen and Mark were avid bowlers, dragging John and Dan anywhere and everywhere they could find a bowling alley. Karen’s love for Eagles and her love of travel was only overshadowed by her love of her family … Christmas was Karen’s favorite holiday.

Karen raised 6 kids and was the loving grandmother to many and enjoyed numerous great-grandchildren.

Karen’s love of cooking is found in the many cookbooks and recipes handed out to so many in Lassen County (Kahlua Recipe is a favorite).
