Members of the Lake 4H club worked hard last week to pack boxes of food to help the Salvation Army with their Thanksgiving deliveries for families in need. According to Susanville Salvation Army Director Carla McDonald these boxes will be part of the organization’s remote food distribution in Ravendale on the 15th.
Thanksgiving and Christmas applications have reached maximum capacity at the Salvation Army and that means 200 food boxes will be packed for each holiday.
The funding for these food boxes comes mostly from the Nourishing Neighbors campaign sponsored by Safeway. You can help by rounding up at checkout by $10. For that one simple donation you will be putting a holiday meal on a neighbor’s table who might not get one otherwise.
All funds from this program come directly to the Susanville Salvation Army for local distribution.
You Can Also Help by Bell Ringing
You and your organization or business can volunteer this holiday season to ring bells for the Salvation Army’s iconic red kettles. The funds raised through these donations have a direct and meaningful impact right here in Lassen County.
The money collected through the bell ringing campaign is reinvested back into Salvation Army programs and services in our area. This includes providing critical emergency assistances to low-income or financially struggling families as well as camp, Back-to-School, and Christmas gifts for children, remote food distributions, etc.
The Salvation Army’s food bank is another important program that benefits from these donations. The food, supplies, and financial assistance provided through the food bank make a real difference for families in need right here where we live.
By volunteering to ring bells, you and your organization have the opportunity to give back and support these crucial local initiatives. It’s a simple but impactful way to make a difference during the holiday season.
We hope you’ll consider organizing a bell ringing shift for your team or company. It’s a fun, festive way to get involved and know that your time and effort is directly benefiting our community.
