Larry Wayne Crawford
Larry Wayne Crawford unexpectedly went home to be with our lord September 30, 2018. He was born March 8, 1947, to Charles Westley Crawford and Ella Mae White Crawford in Topeka Kansas. He was the youngest of 8 children. When he was 4 the family moved to California eventually settling in Central Valley California. In his younger years, Larry was in Little League and also played in the band. In Central Valley High School, he was a bass in the chorus and enjoyed singing all his life. He also was on the football team all four years until graduating in 1965. As a youth, he enjoyed fishing, swimming and all water activities on Shasta Lake. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the Navy. After training, he was stationed at Lemoore Naval Air Station. There through friends, he met Kathleen McElroy. After a whirlwind courtship, they married in 1967. A marriage that would last 51 years. In 1969 Larry left the Navy and took a job as a bus driver for Shasta Lake Elementary Schools. Two years later he took a job for Caltrans. He started work in Doyle California. When the Caltrans yard closed in Doyle he moved to Portola California, and eventually was transferred to Caltrans in Susanville California. He went to work at Sierra Army Depot as a warehouseman and then as a truck driver. Larry enjoyed bowling and was in several bowling leagues. He also liked golfing with family and friends.
Larry retired from Sierra Army Depot in 2002 and moved with the family to Soledad California. He loved visiting Monterey and spent many enjoyable times at the pier and the aquarium. Larry and family moved back to Susanville in 2005. Larry and Kathy bought a travel trailer and took many trips. They enjoyed the times spent in Oregon, Washington and Arizona. They became snowbirds and spent several winters in Arizona with family and friends.
Larry was a wonderful person, a loyal friend and a loving father and grandfather. He loved spoiling his four beautiful grandchildren. Hunter, Hailey, Izabella Zaninovich and Morgan Crawford.
Larry is survived by his wife Kathleen, his daughter Kristin Zaninovich, Son-in-law Josh Zaninovich, son Sean Crawford, Siblings, Robert Crawford, Charles Crawford and Bonnie Johnson also by many nieces and nephews. Services for Larry will be held at Walton’s Colonial Mortuary on October 24, 2018, at 10:00 am.
