Proceeds from the sales of Rooptown Red Ale, specially brewed at Lassen Ale Works here in Susanville, are going to help local graduates attend college by way of the Zellamae Miles Memorial Scholarship. Erik Jefferts and Julie Howard from Lassen Ale Works made the presentation to Janet Corey and the Historical Society Friday at the museum on Weatherlow Street.
The historical society offers two $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors each year. The scholarship is named for Zellamae Miles, granddaughter of Susanville namesake Susan Roop and great granddaughter of town founder Isaac Roop.
Officially the Rooptown Red is a full bodied, dark ruby colored “Red IPA” brewed with Northwest Pale, Munich, and Dark Crystal malts, white wheat, and a touch of chocolate malt and roast barley.
