The Lassen County Animal Shelter in Johnstonville has released statistics showing intakes, surrenders and adoptions at the facility over the last year, compared with the numbers from 2023.
“A quick glance shows that owner surrenders are very high, with even more waiting to come in off of our pending surrender list kept by staff, and return to owners fell,” details Kennel Technician Jamie Proia. “However, we did surpass our previous year’s numbers for adoptions and that is thanks to all the wonderful, caring people who opened their homes to shelter animals in need.”
Proia encouraged everyone to keep the upward trend going and to shoot for a 90% save rate, or better, in 2025.
The “save rate” mentioned below reflects the percentage of animals leaving the shelter via adoption, reunification with owners or transfer to rescue partners.
