Lassen County Chamber of Commerce Update for October 9th

It’s Ghosting Season. Don’t be scared. This is a fundraiser by Lassen Family Services, Inc. Throughout October, they will be placing little ghosts into yards around Susanville. If a ghosts are placed in your yard, you will receive a form taped to your door explaining how to ghost another lawn. This ghosting is done in Good Spirits and is not meant to be offensive in any way. These ghosts will Rest In Piece on a lawn for twenty-four hours until they mysteriously Cross Over to another person’s lawn. To ghost someone, please call 530.257.4599. Thank you for your support. The money raised from this fundraiser allows LFS to continue providing services to survivors of violence in our community.

The Lassen County Arts Council is excited to announce the Autumn Exhibit. The Autumn Exhibit is a shared show featuring Rome Ravenwood of ChaCha’s Tacos, Ana Rivera of Mini Benniz, and LMUD’s Ruralite Magazine Photo Cover Contest Entries. Please join the Art’s Council, October 5, 2023 through November 18, 2023 to view this amazing exhibit. The gallery is open weekly on Thursday and Friday from 4:00 to 7:00p.m., and Saturday 9:00 to 4:00p.m., and by appointment. There will be a reception held in partnership with LMUD on October 12, 2023 from 5:30-7:00p.m., with complimentary snacks and a no host bar.
The Ruralite Cover Photo Contest received dozens of entries, and it was not an easy decision for the Ruralite judges, however the winning photos are: Mike Lee: Tunnel to Wonderland, Cosmic Fireplace, Weed Ceremony (grebe dance) Bruce Brown: Flowers – Spring on Whaleback, Mountain – Lake Helen, Winter Sunshine, Kalilie Shoemaker: Butt Valley Reservoir. In collaboration with the Lassen County Arts Council, you are invited to a reception honoring the winners and recognizing the hard work and efforts of all who entered. Each photograph that was submitted will be featured in the show that will hang in the art gallery for the Autumn Exhibit which will run from October 5 through November 18. Winners of the photo contest will be presented with a $100, LMUD Energy Gift card and their photos will be featured on the covers of the 2024 Ruralite magazine. Rome and Ana’s reception date is TBD, but is an event that should not be missed as it will feature delicious food from these local vendors.

Join Back Country Boutique at the Freaky Friday Midtown Bash on Friday, October 13th from 4:00 to 7:00p.m., at 2055a Main Street, Susanville. Celebrate with the wonderful businesses in Susanville’s midtown area. The Back Country Boutique is celebrating their one-year anniversary and will be cooking up some Back Country Grub. We hope to see you there. Craft and food vendors, costume contest, scavenger hunt and more family friendly fun. Lassen Youth Soccer presents KICK or Treat Halloween Soccer Tournament on Saturday, October 14th. U6-U19, $5 per player. Registration by team, 4-7 Players a Team (create your own team), costumes are strongly encouraged. For more information or to register for your team, visit www.lassenyouthsoccer.org. Join Bottle & Brush Art Bar for a fun evening of Halloween shenanigans. Midtown business have come together to bring you an evening of good times and community. They will have drink specials and treats with live music featuring Zach Bouyear from 6:30-8:30p.m. Other participating businesses include Merry Morsels, Back Country Boutique, Mountain Yoga Studio, Milwood Florist, Susanville Realty, Supreme Graphics, Lassen Creations, ChaChas Tacos, and more will offer raffles, prizes, and open house treats. Stop in and support local small midtown businesses on Friday the 13th.

Lassen Library Family Literacy Day, Saturday October 14th at 11:00a.m. Geared towards families with children 0-5 years old, join them for an afternoon of stories, songs, and activities about learning our ABC’s. Join Bottle & Brush Art Bar the week of October 8th – October 14th. Get ready for a week of entertainment. On Wednesday they will host their weekly Paint & Sip class, where you can embrace your inner artist; check their social media or website for a sneak peek of the artwork and reservation details. Thursday at 6:30p.m., put on your thinking caps for Trivia Night – gather your friends for a chance to win prizes. On Friday, join them for a Freaky Friday Midtown Bash. Bottle and Brush will host an open house from 4:00 – 7:00p.m., with other participating businesses in the Midtown area. They will also have Live Music by Zach Bouyear starting at 6:30p.m.  They close out the week on Saturday with a special Wine Tasting featuring The Prisoner Wine Company, with six exceptional wines and delicious bites. This year marks the 10-year anniversary for Lassen Family Services Dancing For A Brand New Me. Join LFS for a journey down memory lane as they invited previous dancers back for a night of fun, laughter, delicious snacks, and live entertainment for all ages. Every Bloomin Thing presents Homefront Herbalist Fermentation Fun. Friday October 27, at 5:30p.m. at Every Bloomin Thing. Come and spend the evening with Kristie of Homefront Herbalist (formerly Kristie’s Kitchen) learning why it’s so important to incorporate fermented foods into our everyday diet. Can anyone say healthy gut microbiome? In this class you will learn about the process of fermentation, the benefits of eating fermented foods, taste some delicious samples, and learn about the versatility of fermenting from veggies, fruit, to dairy and more. This class will offer a hands-on activity learning how to create your very own ferment from beginning to end to take home and enjoy.

Lassen County Chamber of Commerce presents Safe and Sane 2023, Tuesday, October 31st from 3:30 – 5:30p.m. Businesses are to provide their own table, anything they would like to include in their booth space (decorations, etc..), and roughly around 2000+ pieces of candy to distribute. Join Every Bloomin’ Thing Garden Center and Gift Shop for their Annual Harvest Open House. Saturday, November 4th from 9:00 to 5:00p.m., at Every Bloomin’ Thing (705 US Hwy 395 E, Susanville). They will be hosting delicious gourmet goodies and libations during the Celebration of the Harvest Season. The nursery will be having their fall planting sale with all plants up to 60% off. They have invited local artisans to join in the Garden Room as well. It’s always a wonderful day to visit with friends and prepare for the upcoming holidays.

Susanville Best of Broadway presents 2024 concert series The Broadway Renaissance Auditions. Saturday, October 28th, from 10:00 to 2:00p.m., and Sunday, November 5th, 12:00 to 4:00p.m., at the Susanville Veteran’s Memorial Hall. VFW, Veterans of Foreign Wars William Davidson Post 2381 presents Saturday Breakfast. April Through December from 0800 hours to 1100 hours at the Veterans Memorial Hall. VFW Post 2381 will be serving breakfast on the 1st Saturday of each month. Breakfast is open to the public. Breakfast will be held downstairs in the Veterans Memorial Building in Susanville.

In our community, Lassen College presents a unique opportunity to engage in various enriching discussions with their free lunchtime lecture series. The series takes place every Tuesday from 11:30 to 12:30p.m., at the Lassen Library District conference room on Main Street. These weekly, hour-long sessions delve into diverse topics ranging from practical skills such as writing effective professional emails and starting a small business, to crowd-pleaser topics including beekeeping and the mysterious world of spiders. They even cover critical issues like managing financial worries and cyber-awareness skills for the whole family. For a special treat, they also offer beginner and intermediate classes in AI with ChatGPT. All are invited to join these free, educational events. Join the fun with Bottle & Brush Art Bar for their New Summer Schedule for Trivia Night. They’re moving to once-a-month schedule for Trivia Night for the next few months, starting in May.
