Lassen Peak erupted on May 22, 1915, devastating areas as far as 200 miles away with raining volcanic ash, much of the devastation can still be seen today. Lassen Volcanic National Park will present a series of history related activities during the month of May to commemorate this event 100 years later. Lassen Peak is the largest of the more than 30 volcanic domes that have erupted in Lassen National Park over the past 300,000 years. The park will have special programs that will be presented by the USGS and park staff during the month of May, thru Memorial Day weekend, to highlight this historic event as well as park history. Visit the park website www.nps.gov/lavo for more information about the events planned.
