The Lassen County Probation Department is proud to announce they will celebrating Pretrial, Probation and Parole Supervision Week from July 21st through 27th. With the theme of “Restoring Trust, Creating Hope”, Probation Supervision Week is an annual celebration with a goal of raising awareness about the amazing work that community corrections professionals do every day.

In his commemorative message Governor Newsom states, “Probation bridges the critical intersection of accountability and treatment, improving public safety through decreased recidivism and linking the efforts of the courts, the community and public safety.”

Across the state of California, 39,000 juveniles and 350,000 adults are under probation supervision. Probation is a Court order placing the adults or juveniles under the supervision of a probation officer in lieu of incarceration and is the most common criminal sentence or juvenile disposition in the United States.

Probation officers provide direct services to probationers by linking stakeholders at all levels including the Courts, state and local law enforcement agencies, county behavioral health workers, child welfare services, office of education and work force development, victims’ rights organizations and other community-based agencies.

Officers are tasked with assessing probationers for their risk to recidivate, case planning and coordinating services and providing supervision to ensure public safety and compliance with terms and conditions of probation.

Probation also conducts the truancy, Foster Youth Services and Independent Living programs, managed the juvenile detention facility, attends court proceedings, writes court reports referred to the Probation Department including pre-sentence investigations and juvenile disposition reports.

All week long the Lassen County Probation Department will celebrate and acknowledge the hard work put forth by their employees throughout the department, including Juvenile Hall Counselors, Adult Probation staff and Juvenile Probation staff.

Throughout the year you will see Probation staff at community events like the Lassen County Fair, reading in the park, the Children’s fair, Uptown Halloween, Uptown Christmas and the Courage Triathlon, which the department has sponsored for the last three years.

If you see probation staff out and about at these community events, feel free to ask questions and thank them for all their hard work!
