Lassen County Students Shine at 2026 County Spelling Bee

Champion spellers from across Lassen County gathered at Richmond Elementary School on March 20th, to showcase their linguistic talents in the 2026 Lassen County Spelling Bee.

The annual event brought together the top students from several local institutions, including Diamond View Middle School, Janesville School, Johnstonville Elementary School, Long Valley Charter School, Richmond Elementary School and Shaffer Elementary.

This year’s competition was organized into three distinct divisions, featuring 43 total participants who had already proven their skills at the school level.

Division 1 (Grades 3-4)
The youngest competitors kicked off the event with 16 students vying for the top spot. Adelyn Russell of Richmond Elementary School took home the championship title, while Saxon Edmiston of Shaffer Elementary School earned the Runner Up position.

Division 2 (Grades 5-6)
In the middle division, 14 students faced off in a rigorous round of spelling. Audrey Estrada from Janesville School emerged as the Division 2 Champion. Jackson Fletcher of Johnstonville Elementary School followed closely as the Runner Up.

Division 3 (Grades 7-8)
The senior division featured 13 students in the 7th and 8th grades. Mason Taylor of Janesville School., secured the championship. The Runner Up for the division was Tyler Radey, representing Long Valley Charter School in Doyle.

According to Richmond Elementary’s Ida Bruce, the event was a testament to the hard work and academic excellence of students throughout the county. Congratulations to all the participants and winners of this year’s Bee!
