It was a busy August in Lassen County schools and, as the last of the students return to their classrooms, Superintendent of Schools Patty Gunderson has issued a heartfelt welcome letter to students, families, staff and the community, marking the official start of the 2025-2026 school year.
In her letter, Gunderson expresses her excitement for the new academic year, calling the start of each year “a special time, filled with anticipation, renewed energy, and the promise of growth and opportunity.”
She emphasizes the vital role of the community in supporting local schools, stating that it takes “all of us—students, educators, families, and community members—working together to create safe, supportive, and inspiring learning environments.”
Gunderson praised the dedication of Lassen County teachers and staff and extended her gratitude to families and community partners for their ongoing support. She also highlighted the district’s commitment to a holistic approach to education, which she explains as not only “academic success but also the social and emotional well-being of every student.”
Looking ahead, Gunderson outlined the shared goals for the year, which include building “strong foundations for learning, celebrate the unique strengths of our children, and prepare them for bright futures.” She encourages everyone to stay involved, support one another, and celebrate both the “big and small” successes throughout the year.
“Hand-in-hand, we can ensure that Lassen County schools remain places where every student is valued, challenged and supported.”
