On June 17th the Lassen County Environmental Education Collaborative coordinated a site visit to Honey Lake Power in Wendel for students in 7th through 12th grades.
Greg Blevins, HLP Interim General Manager, and Fuel Supply Manager Mark Shaffer led a discussion of renewable biomass power generation and plant operations, followed with a tour of the facility and concluded with a debriefing on the growing renewable and alternative energy industry and careers available in the field.
The students learned about the entire process of power generation from the upending of two tractor trailers biomass contents on to conveyor belts all the way through to the cooling tower.
Our thanks go out to the professionals at Honey Lake Power that coordinated and led the tour and their team who shared their roles and responsibilities at the facility with the young people.
This is one of many youth programs offered by the LCEEC. If you’re interesting in participating in future events, please contact education coordinator, Jessie Diermier at (530) 257-3252 or by email at [email protected]. Scouting groups welcome!
