More than six million young people across the country will celebrate National 4-H Week, an annual celebration of 4-H during the first full week in October. Lassen County 4-H will leverage National 4-H week this year to showcase the great things that 4-H offers young people and highlight the incredible 4-H youth in the community who work each day to make a positive impact.
Look for window displays throughout the county; the theme this year is “4-H, Join the Ride.”
Research has proven that participation in 4-H has a significant positive impact on young people. Recent findings from the Tufts University 4-H Study of Positive Youth Development indicate that, when compared to their peers, young people in 4-H are:
- Nearly four times more likely to contribute to their communities,
- Two times more likely to pursue healthy behaviors, and
- Two times more likely to engage in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) programs in the out-of –school time.
In Lassen County over 150 4-H youth and 50 volunteers from the community are involved in 4-H.
Find out more about joining or volunteering for the 4-H program at the Lassen County 4-H website: http://celassen.ucanr.edu/. It is an excellent source of information.
Volunteers share their knowledge or hobby by conducting a minimum of 6 hours instruction in a project. Make a difference in the lives of Lassen County Youth. 4-H members are tomorrow’s leaders!
As an Emerald Star project one of our members held two CPR, First Aid & AED Classes that were open to 4-H staff, leaders, members and youth in the community.
Our 4-H Hoof Beats group will be attending the National Arabian competition this October in Oklahoma. The team also qualified to represent California 4-H at the National Western Stock Show competition in Denver this January.
