Have you ever wondered what it would be like to make a difference in someone’s life, offering hope and providing appropriate resources and referrals to those who have experienced trauma in the form of family violence or as victims of crime? Interested individuals willing to complete two full weeks of training, scheduled Monday-Friday during regular business hours the weeks of January 4th and January 11th, 2016, will qualify for certification as Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Peer Counselors.
Actual certification is reserved for those who work or volunteer for state funded domestic violence and rape crisis centers such as Lassen Family Services.
LFS is Lassen County’s only crisis intervention center providing completely free services to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, child and elder abuse and neglect. The agency is offering this free training to prospective community volunteers.
Volunteers are needed to work the Crisis Line, and after additional training and appropriate supervision, to work directly with survivors at the Domestic Violence Shelter or providing individualized peer counseling at Lassen Family Services’ business offices.
