Lassen Family Services: Walking a Mile in Their Shoes

620walkamilebannerThis week, April 6th – 12th, is National Crime Victims’ Rights Week and Lassen Family Services in Susanville has a host of activities planned to celebrate this year’s theme, 30 Years: Restoring the Balance of Justice, commemorating the 30th anniversary of the enactment of the U.S. Victims of Crime Act. The busy week climaxes Saturday with a community event featuring Walk a Mile in Their Shoes, a Law Enforcement Chili Cook-Off and an Informational Fair.

walkamileNational Crime Victims’ Rights Week, first designated by President Ronald Reagan in 1981, seeks to increase general public awareness of the wide range of rights and services available to people who have been victimized by crime. The community project helps generate widespread public awareness of crime victims’ rights and needs, and the importance of engaging all people in America in victim assistance efforts.

Come on out and have some fun while supporting a great cause!

Registration for the walking event starts at 8:30 Saturday morning for people that will be walking but haven’t registered yet.

Organizations who provide victim’s rights services will be manning informational booths beginning at 9:00.

Opening ceremony starts at 10:00 and the walk will start at 10:45.

The Law Enforcement Chili Cook-off will start at 11:15, right after the Walk a Mile, in the downstairs at Lassen Family Services facility on Riverside Drive. The chili will be judged by the community and the winner will be presented with an award at 1:45.
