Are you interested in improving the local food system and fighting food insecurity in Lassen County?
Lassen County Public Health and Social Services invites you to participate in a FEAST (Food, Education, Agriculture, Solutions, Together) a community organizing event focusing on local food systems.
FEAST is an opportunity to engage in an informed and facilitated discussion about food, education, agriculture and hunger in Lassen County to begin work toward creating Solutions Together to build a healthier, more equitable and resilient local food system.
FEAST is an original model from the Oregon Food Bank that had so much success in communities that it was adopted by Northern Nevada Food Bank who will now implement the event in Lassen County.
The Lassen FEAST Community Food Summit will be held Tuesday, July 9th from 9:00am-3:00pm at the Honey Lake Grange Hall on Theatre Road in Johnstonville. It is free and is open to all community members who are interested in learning and providing input at the inspirational event.
A local panel of experts will be telling their story to give a local perspective of Lassen County’s food system. Panelists include farmer Jason and Rhonda Meadows, rancher Hannah Tangeman, retailer Rick Stewart from Susanville Supermarket IGA, Principal Dawn Howe from Johnstonville School and more!
Food Systems developers, Kristi Jamason and Lyndsey Langsdale from Northern Nevada Food Bank will be facilitating the event to help Lassen County create visions and solutions for our food system priorities resulting in a food system action plan for our community!
In addition, a FEAST wouldn’t be a feast without a meal! A potato bar luncheon will be provided to all attendees with healthy, local foods from ranches and farms in Lassen County including chili with beef from the local Hole-in-One ranch.
When a community comes together to discuss how it can build a healthier, more sustainable food system, amazing things happen. Relationships with local growers flourish. Backyard growing, community gardens, and new farmer’s markets sprout. Food insecurity, poor nutrition and hunger are curbed. And neighbors learn that, by working together, we can create a stronger local food system in Lassen County!
This event is funded by the Lassen County SNAP-Ed program and facilitated by the Northern Nevada Food Bank in coordination with the local steering committee of representatives from Public Health, Social Services, USDA, Honey Lake Grange, Lassen Land and Trails Trust, CNAP (Center for Nutrition and Activity Promotion), local farmers, ranchers and community members.
