Andrew Mackey, a student in the Lassen Community College Forestry program, has been awarded a $2,500 scholarship by the Lassen Fire Safe Council. This award is one of several scholarships the Fire Safe Council has provided to Lassen College students, continuing a strong tradition of partnership between the organization and the college’s natural resources department.
Lassen College’s Forestry program is designed to prepare students for careers in forest management, wildfire mitigation, and natural resource stewardship. The curriculum emphasizes hands-on learning and fosters strong connections to local land management partners.

According to the college, support from organizations like the Lassen Fire Safe Council is vital. It helps students gain the necessary skills to protect and manage forests for future generations.
“Thank you to the Lassen Fire Safe Council for investing in students and supporting education that strengthens forest health, wildfire resilience, and community safety across our region,” said a college representative.
LCC expressed pride in Mackey’s achievement, noting they are excited to see the impact he will make in the field of forestry.
