The Lassen Fire Safe Council Community Fund has presented another $10,000 check to the Lassen College Foundation & Alumni Association. The funds will directly support scholarships for students enrolled in the college’s Fire Sciences and Forestry programs as part of an ongoing “grow our own” initiative.
The initiative, which initially launched with a $10,000 contribution in 2025, aims to build a robust local workforce by training and retaining professionals who will live and work within Lassen County.
The Community Fund committee, established in December 2023 and chaired by Chevi Amrein, is supported by the sale of unused equipment, small donations, and a portion of the 2021 Dixie Fire PG&E Settlement funds. The council has previously noted that none of the settlement money can be recovered by PG&E in customer rates, ensuring the funds are entirely used for the community’s benefit.
In addition to supporting local education, the LFSC Community Fund continues to assist Lassen County’s 15 volunteer fire departments by offering up to $800 in communication system reimbursements for platforms like IamResponding or Active 911 to improve local dispatch times.

The LFSC welcomes project ideas from its 12 Firewise communities, volunteer fire departments, and all residents to help preserve Northern California’s resources from the effects of wildfires.
