Get ready for a night of fun music and empowerment as more than 20 talented students from the Lassen High Drama Club bring the trials and tribulations of employment to the stage. This week, the school’s drama room will be transformed into a 1970s office for their production of 9 to 5 Jr., a 60-minute adaptation of the Broadway musical featuring music and lyrics by the legendary Dolly Parton and a book by Patricia Resnick.
Based on the iconic 1980 hit movie, the story follows three very different coworkers—Violet, Judy, and Doralee—who find common ground in their shared frustration with their bullying boss, Mr. Hart. Together, the trio hatches a plan to liberate their office, eventually giving their workplace a dream makeover and taking control of the company that had always kept them down.
Drama Club Advisor Kayla Millar notes that the students have been hard at work since the new year began. She describes the production as a true ensemble show filled with exciting songs and plenty of laughs. Beyond the performance itself, Millar says the process has been a valuable educational experience, with students learning a great deal about collaboration and the unique culture of the 1970s.
For some, the show represents the culmination of years in the Drama Club. Senior Jacey Pontarolo expressed her excitement about the upcoming opening night, saying, “I’m excited to show off our hard work, and am glad to do one more production with the friends I’ve gained in Drama Club.”

Performances will be held at 6:00p.m. each evening starting this Thursday, February 26th, and running through Saturday, February 28th. All shows will take place in the High School Drama Room.
Tickets are available at the door for $10 for general admission or $8 for students and seniors. Come out and support these local performers as they celebrate teamwork and the courage to stand up for what’s right.
