Get ready to experience the stunning autumn foliage! Lassen Land and Trails Trust, in partnership with Lassen Rural Bus, is inviting the public to enjoy the season’s peaking colors during their annual fall colors bike ride and shuttle on Saturday, October 25th.
The event offers a unique way to traverse the beautiful Bizz Johnson National Recreation Trail as participants are shuttled to various starting points to ride or walk back to Susanville.
Event Details and Logistics
Participants should gather at the historic Susanville Depot, 601 Richmond Road, at 8:15a.m. The bus and bike shuttle will leave promptly at 8:30a.m.
The shuttle will transport riders and their bikes – which will be hauled on a separate trailer -to several locations along the trail:
- Devilās Corral Trailhead (approximately 7 miles back to Susanville)
- Fredonyer Summit (approximately 15 miles back to Susanville)
- Near Westwood (approximately 25 miles back to Susanville)
Riders can then choose their preferred distance to ride or walk the mostly downhill or flat, smooth gravel route back to town. The ride is considered ideal for families, though wide-tire or hybrid bikes are recommended for the surface.
Fees and Reservations
There are small, separate fees for the transportation services:
- Bus Fee: $3 (Exact change is encouraged)
- Bike Shuttle: $5 donation (Appreciated but not required)
While reservations are not required to participate, they are appreciated to help plan for space. To reserve your spot on the bus and for bike shuttle space, please contact the Lassen Land and Trails Trust at 1.530.257.3252.
What to Bring
Participants should be prepared for significant temperature swings typical of a mountain fall day. Forecasts indicate morning temperatures at or near freezing, with temperatures climbing into the low to mid-60s by midday. Dressing in layers is highly recommended for changing weather conditions.
