farmers4Lassen Land and Trails Trust has announced the appointment of Laura Medvin as the new manager of Lassen County’s only certified Farmers’ Market.

Medvin is a fifth generation Lassen County family with an agricultural background in small farm management and a former 4H volunteer. Her previous work experience includes seven years with the US Forest Service as a Wildlife Technician, 12 years as an Environmental Technician with the Susanville Indian Rancheria and three years as an Environmental Manager with the Reno Sparks Indian Colony in Reno, Nevada, her current position.

“Laura understands the importance of promoting the Farmers’ Market as an opportunity to support local growers and artisans in our region,” said Elizabeth Norton, Vice President of the Lassen Land and Trails Trust.

“The market is one of Susanville’s greatest assets.  In addition to fresh, locally grown food, the market offers a place for people from all walks of life to come together and create a sense of community.  It’s a fun, vibrant place to be on a Saturday morning during the summer season!”

Medvin begins her position immediately and according to Norton she already has lots of ideas to support the vendors who make the market such a great place to shop, including a quote of the week – ‘Think, eat, and live outside the box!’  It’s her way of encouraging the community to eat less processed food and enjoy more fresh produce and locally grown meat, which the market is known for.

“I’m excited to be a part of our Farmers’ Market community and working with all the vendors and customers,” said Medvin.  The market opens on June 4th and runs until September 24th.
