The Lassen Library District is reaching out to the community with a simple question: How and why do you use the library?
From January 25th through January 31st, the library will join a statewide initiative titled “Every Story Counts.” This effort aims to capture data, personal stories and photos that illustrate the vital role public libraries play in the daily lives of Californians.
With 188 library jurisdictions and over 1,000 local branches across the state, libraries deliver essential services and trusted information. Now, the Lassen Library wants to highlight the specific impact they have right here in Susanville.
“The Lassen Library District staff work hard to provide our community a wide range of programs and services,” said Heather Blevins, Library Director. “We want to know more about not only how and why our community uses the library, but to hear from the community directly about their own library experiences.”
How to Participate
During the week of January 25th – 31st, library staff will be capturing photos and videos of programs and services in action. Patrons are encouraged to share their own stories, whether they are visiting for a specific event or simply utilizing the facility’s resources.
Greg Lucas, California State Librarian, emphasized the importance of this data collection: “We all know the value of public libraries and the strong return on investment they provide. Every Story Counts will help us create a more complete picture of the extraordinary range of activities that happen in libraries across the state.”
More Than Just Books
The library is asking residents to share stories regarding any of the wide variety of services they utilize, including:
Family Activities: Weekly children’s story time, craft time, and summer reading programs.
Education: Adult and family literacy programs, GED classes, ESL (English as a Second Language), and basic computer classes.
Services: Copying/printing, faxing/scanning, public computer access, and the Pearson Vue Test Center.
Collections: Checking out books, DVDs/Blu-rays, audiobooks, Zip Books, or accessing the California and Native American Collection.
