Lassen National Forest Opening Zone V for Fuelwood Cutting May 26th

The Eagle Lake Ranger District of the Lassen National Forest announced today they will open Zone V for fuelwood cutting on May 26th. A personal use permit is required.

The district would like to remind drivers that road conditions remain saturated, creating soft conditions where vehicles can easily become stuck. “Early season road conditions exist and many areas may still be wet, soft, and muddy,” said Eagle Lake District Small Sales Officer Rickie Crowther. “The warmer weather is helping to dry out roads, but some areas remain inaccessible.”

Traveling cross-country with motor vehicles to scout for wood is prohibited. Fuelwood cutters are reminded to stay on roads and trails but are allowed to leave a forest road to gather firewood with a valid wood permit, only if this activity does not harm natural resources.

Permit holders are encouraged to read and understand the terms and conditions of the permit. A map that depicts area closures will be provided with the permit. Failure to follow the terms and conditions of the permit and map may result in a violation notice.

Permits may be purchased at the Eagle Lake Ranger District office, located at 477-050 Eagle Lake Road, near the intersection of Highway 36 and County Road A-1, three miles west of Susanville. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00a.m. to 4:30p.m.

The price of personal wood permits is $10 per cord, with a minimum purchase of two cords per permit. Multiple permits may be purchased up to the 10-cord limit. Personal use tags purchased on the Lassen National Forest are also valid on the Plumas National Forest and vice versa.
