Lassen National Forest’s Almanor Ranger District will offer its next guided snowshoe walk on Friday, February 5th at the Almanor Ranger Station on Route 36. Participants will explore stands of large pine trees and the slopes of Stover Mountain while learning basic winter survival skills.

“We are finally experiencing our first wet winter in several years,” said Almanor District Acting Recreation Officer Stacy Kronner. “So many people live close to the Forest but have never seen it in its winter glory. We are encouraged by how many folks are snowshoeing for the first time.”

Attendees must be at least eight years old, and minors must be accompanied by an adult. Snowshoes are available free of charge, but cross-country skiers must provide their own equipment.

Participants should meet at the Almanor Ranger District Office at 12:15 pm. All interested parties must contact Stacy Kronner in advance at (530) 258-5162 or srkronner@fs.fed.us to register.

This is the third guided outing of the season organized by the Almanor Ranger District. Future walks are scheduled for February 19th and March 4th.

All programs require reservations.
