Lassen National Forest to Host Public Meeting in Chico

forestserviceupdateLassen National Forest invites the public to an open house on Wednesday, September 16th to collect ideas for sustainable recreation opportunities in the High Lakes. The event will take place from 4:00 to 7:00p.m. at the Trinity United Methodist Church, 285 East Fifth Street in Chico.

High Lakes is a high-elevation region of the Lassen National Forest located on the south side of the Almanor Ranger District between Highways 32 and 70. This popular recreation destination is visited by anglers, campers, rockhounds and off-highway vehicle enthusiasts.

Lassen National Forest is considering several management actions to maintain routes, improve watershed condition, and enhance public access.

“Some of the actions we’re considering include rerouting trails, relocating campsites, and improving staging areas and opportunities for dispersed camping,” said Almanor District Ranger Kathleen Nelson. “We’re holding the open house to discuss ideas with those who have an interest in the High Lakes area.”

Forest Service staff will incorporate the public input from this informal information gathering into a proposed action plan that will be released after January 1st, 2016 as part of the public scoping process.
