The Lassen Orange Crush, Lassen Youth Soccer’s 2018 U12 League Champions, participated in the District Cup held in Redding on November 10th and 11th. The District Cup is a tournament comprised of the championship teams from the various leagues throughout Northern California.
“Although Lassen Youth Soccer has sent some teams who have been competitive in the past, over recent years, Lassen Teams have struggled to get wins in the district tournament,” explains Coach Ken Langslet. “This year was an exception. Not only did the Orange Crush team win games, they made it into the championship game.”
In their first game, according to Coach Langslet, they defeated the Siskiyou Tsunami with a score of 1-0. In their second game they defeated the Siskiyou Navy with a score of 2-1. In their third game they defeated the Siskiyou Force with a score of 1-0.
By winning these three games the Lassen Orange Crush had the second highest number of tournament points, securing their place in the championship game.
In the championship game the Lassen Orange Crush faced off against the Red Bluff Dragons. The game was nothing short of a battle, with the Lassen Orange Crush playing hard and fighting until the final whistle.
Despite the Orange Crush playing an amazing game, the Red Bluff Dragons won the game with a score of 6-2.
Taking second place in the District Cup Tournament brought an end to an outstanding season for the team which finished with the League Championship, second place in the League tournament and second place at District Cup. Between league and tournament play, Lassen Orange Crush played a total of 16 games. Out of the 16 games they had 13 wins, 1 tie and 2 losses.
