eReporter Dwayne Nevis

The Lassen Rush softball squad travelled to the softball World Series in Sacramento last week, joining teams from all over California and Nevada who qualified for the prestigious event.

Lassen Rush battled 16 tough teams in the 12U division, in temperatures that stayed at over 100 degrees for most of the tournament.

The opening ceremonies were spectacular with over 60 teams trading pins and attending the carnival. There were special events; Carlie Lewis pitched at 55 mph at the top gun radar event placing 2nd, Jessie Kerby and Lainey Nevis missed the base running championship by 1/10 of a second and the girls had a blast in the Home Run Derby.

The fireworks show and team introduction was top-notch with a lot of effort put into it.

The girls went 2-2 in pool play on Friday and Saturday, getting past the runner-up in the Nevada State Championship DV Dynamite 7-2 and the Sacramento Swaggerzz 10-1, but falling to the Nor-Cal Cruisers and Sacramento Yard Sharks.

On Sunday a different Lassen Rush team showed up, it was win or go home. The girls were ready to win and put their losses behind them.

The girls got past the Davis Lady Demons 7-6 coming from behind in the last inning down by one to win. The next game was against WR Pride from Yerington, Nevada. This was another close game with the girls besting Pride 5-4. The Pride is a two-time tournament winner.

That win put LassenRush into the championship against Nor-Cal Elite from Fairfield. Elite is an intense team and the girls were tied 1-1 going into the 4th inning.

Lassen Rush came alive and won the game 9-2, securing the championship. During the awards presentation, both teams posed for a picture together showing extreme sportsmanship. Nor-Cal Elite is a great organization.

At 8:30p.m., after three days, 8 games total and 4 games on Sunday stating at 8:30a.m., The Lassen Rush 12U Fastpitch Softball Team was crowned World Series Champions in the silver division.

Carli Lewis and Katie Turner handle the pitching excellently, while Jessie Kerby and Dani Nevis did a great job catching.

Myrissa Geer batted over 500 for the series, Jessie Kerby had 3 home runs, McKenzie Jones had 1 home run and 1 stand up triple, and Makenna Busse had a mammoth home run to center field in the championship game.

All the girls played awesome, hit well, and contributed to the championship. They are also super excited that they will receive World Series Champions Rings.
