It was an exciting trip to the Cal North District IX Tournament of Champions for four top Lassen Youth Soccer teams, two U10 co-ed, one U12 co-ed, and one U14 Boys team.

Both U10 teams won all three of their preliminary games with astonishing scores and stellar play, according to League President Alli Clavel, resulting in them both earning a spot playing each other in the championship game.

“Lassen has never had a U10 team do anywhere near this well in the past,” said Clavel. “Not only have we never had a team make it to the championship game, to have both of our teams take the top spots is really something we are proud of.”

Lassen’s Blue Whoas U10 team took first place, while the other Lassen U10 team, Monster Makos, took second.

The Blue Whoas won 7-1, 7-0 and 8-0 in the tournament. The Monster Makos won 7-2, 4-1 and 7-0. The Monster Makos lead the final at half time 2-1, then the Blue Whoas came back to tie it up with around eight minutes left in the game.

In the final minute the Blue Whoas scored again, ending the game at 3-2.

“We each played two preliminary games on Saturday, and one on Sunday, except Galaxy, who was part of a round robin group of five teams, who played two games on Sunday,” explains Clavel.

“Then the Lassen Monster Makos and Blue Whoas went on to play a fourth game for the championship on Sunday afternoon. There were a total ten U10 teams and ten U12 teams in each division.”

“We are so very proud of all our teams for doing what it takes to get to the tournament, and for their performances while there.”

U12 missed out on the 3rd place game by just one point.

“The U12 and U14 teams were expected to do pretty well, but historically, Lassen hasn’t done well in the U10 division. We have never sent a U10 team to the championship round until this year.”
