The patriotic theme of the 2026 Lassen County Fair, “Red, White and You,” celebrated 250 years of America, and that same community spirit radiated throughout the Lassen County Fair Livestock Pavilion on Sunday morning, July 19th. Local youth and community supporters gathered for the annual Junior Livestock Auction, raising more than $382,155 through the sale of market lambs, ducks, geese, beef, turkeys, goats, rabbits, swine and poultry.
A total of 157 animal entries went under the gavel, including 56 market swine, 37 market lambs, 18 beef cattle, 13 rabbit meat pens, 9 poultry pens, 8 market goats, 7 turkeys, 4 market duck pens and 4 market geese pens.
Market Lambs
The auction kicked off with the market lamb division. Samantha Medvin of Susanville FFA led off the sale with her Supreme Grand Champion Lamb, which was purchased by CHP 140 Club and Idaho Butcher Shop at $26 per pound. Paiton Hallmark of Milford 4H followed with her Reserve Supreme Champion, purchased by Susanville Supermarket IGA at $21 per pound. Medvin was also awarded the Jack and Pat Haslem Memorial Award for the best local Bred and Fed lamb, bred by Terry and Debi Savage.
Market Ducks and Geese
In the duck division, Nadiya Floyd of Susanville FFA earned Supreme Grand Champion honors, with her pen selling to CHP 140 Club for $900. Lewis Hahn of Richmond 4H showed the Reserve Supreme Grand Champion Duck, purchased by Les Schwab Tire for $1,000.
Lily Ammon of Susanville FFA took Supreme Grand Champion Goose, purchased by Hagata Ranch for $1,150. Karah Edmonds of Dyer Mountain 4H showed the Reserve Supreme Champion Goose, which was purchased by Edward Jones for $1,000.
Market Goats
Goats were next in the ring. Aspen Borba of Susanville FFA showed the Supreme Grand Champion Goat, purchased by CHP 140 Club and Savage Feed Supply at $24 per pound. Borba also took home the Local Bred and Fed Goat award for her animal bred by Lazy S Boer Goats. Nolan Lilly of Richmond 4H earned Reserve Supreme Champion, purchased by Hat Creek Construction at $17 per pound.
Turkeys
Axtin Smith of Westwood FFA showed the Supreme Grand Champion Turkey, which was purchased by MLJ Show Cattle for $1,350. Cory Deehan of South County 4H earned Reserve Supreme Champion, purchased for $700 by Bill Payer.
Market Beef
The Supreme Grand Champion Beef was shown by Elaina Stand of Dyer Mountain 4H and purchased by Hat Creek Construction at $6 per pound. Peyton Pratt of Susanville FFA earned Reserve Supreme Champion Beef, purchased by Ed Staub & Sons and Hat Creek Construction at $6 per pound. Pratt also took home the Local Bred and Fed Beef award for her steer bred by Wolf Ranch Angus.
Rabbit Meat Pens
Gracie Saint Germain of Susanville FFA presented the Supreme Grand Champion Rabbit pen, purchased by CHP 140 Club and Kaitlyn Midgley for $1,800. Joseph Phan of Susanville FFA captured Reserve Supreme Champion, purchased by Dennis Michaels Construction and Lassen Vet Services for $1,300. The Local Bred and Fed Rabbit award went to Liam Allen of South County 4H for a pen he bred himself.
Market Swine
In the swine division, Ava Schies of Westwood FFA took Supreme Grand Champion Hog, selling for $34 per pound to Greg Lopez Construction. Carter Brazil of Johnstonville 4H showed the Reserve Supreme Champion, purchased by CHP 140 Club for $24 per pound. Carlee Parker of Richmond 4H won the Local Bred and Fed Hog award with a hog she raised and bred.
Poultry Pens
Closing out the day was the poultry division. Bailey Adams of Milford 4H earned Supreme Grand Champion Poultry, purchased by CB Equipment Repair and the Butterbach Family for $1,600. Isabella Burton of Susanville FFA showed the Reserve Supreme Champion, which sold for $1,500 to Nathan Cox.
The Lassen County Junior Livestock Auction committee and the junior exhibitors extended their, “sincere gratitude to all the community buyers and local businesses for their generous and continued support of Lassen County’s future agricultural leaders.”
