Drivers in the Susanville area should expect to see an increased law enforcement presence this Friday, May 8th, as the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with the California Highway Patrol and the Susanville Police Department, will be conducting a DUI and driver’s license safety checkpoint at an undisclosed location within the Susanville city limits.
A Focus on Public Safety
According to Lassen County Sheriff John McGarva, these operations are a vital part of keeping local roads safe.
“Often, members of our community are senselessly injured or killed on our local roadways by intoxicated drivers,” said Sheriff McGarva. “The goal of the LCSO and CHP is to ensure the safe passage of each and every motorist.”
What to Expect
Traffic volume permitting, officers will be checking all vehicles passing through the checkpoint. Law enforcement personnel will be looking for:
- Drivers operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
- Drivers who are unlicensed or driving with a suspended license.
The LCSO emphasizes that sobriety checkpoints are a proven tool designed to augment existing patrol operations. The primary objective is to proactively remove impaired drivers from the road before they cause life-altering collisions.
Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, designate a sober driver and always carry a valid driver’s license when getting behind the wheel.
