Law Enforcement Searching for Wanted Felon

Lassen County Sheriff’s Department Urgent Message
Wanted Felon At Large: Considered Armed and Dangerous

The Lassen County Sheriff’s Department reports this evening that around noon today deputies responded to a residence on Lakecrest Drive in Janesville to assist the California Highway Patrol regarding the possible theft of an all-terrain vehicle.

During the course of that investigation deputies found 25 pounds of processed marijuana in an outbuilding on the property.

Deputies also found several firearms including a short-barreled pistol gripped shotgun.

One suspect, James Morais, fled the scene prior to the arrival of the deputies and remains at large.

Deputies secured the Morais residence while a search warrant was obtained. The search was completed and Deputies found nunchuku and fireworks modified into an explosive device inside of Morais’ residence.

According to today’s press release from Sheriff Dean Growdon, Morais is wanted on violations which include possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a short barreled shotgun and possession of marijuana for sale.

Morais has a history of violence and weapons possession and should be considered armed and dangerous.
