The Lassen College Foundation is sharing some incredible numbers this week – during the month of June the foundation awarded scholarships to 73 graduates from 11 local high schools. The scholarships are for students to attend LCC for a two-year period in any associate degree or career technical education program offered by the institution.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for our young adults to go onto higher education,” said Mike O’Kelly, foundation board President. “In today’s world, that opens doors and leads to a good life.”
According to John Larrivee, the foundation’s Resource Development Coordinator, funds for the scholarships come from the marina and campground operations at Eagle Lake. Lassen Cougar Enterprises, Inc., a subsidiary of the foundation, manages and markets the facilities in an agreement with the forest service.
In the past nine years, the foundation offered scholarships to 352 Lassen County graduates valued at $855,455.
“The foundation appreciates the hard work and long hours of Scott McCullough who manages those operations,” explains O’Kelly. “It is the fishers and campers at Eagle Lake who keep our scholarships afloat.
The Lassen College Foundation incorporated in 1977 to benefit the college by providing scholarships and fellowships to students and faculty. The foundation Board of Directors includes Mike O’Kelly, Sophia Wages, Dave Clausen, Maria Nye, Aaron Dixon, Todd Eid, Gary Felt, Bill McCabe and Dr. Marlon Hall.
