‘Let Them Swim’ Group Launches Survey to Save Fall Pool Season

A local coalition of parents, students, and concerned swimmers known as “Let Them Swim” is reaching out to the public with an urgent request: please take two minutes to complete a survey that could help keep the Honey Lake Valley Community Pool open during the “shoulder seasons.”

The group recently announced that the upcoming fall season is once again “on the chopping block.” Without sufficient data to demonstrate community demand, the pool faces closure during the critical spring and fall months.

According to representatives from Let Them Swim, the closure of the facility during these months would have a ripple effect across the community, resulting in:

  • No swim lessons
  • No swim teams
  • No youth programs
  • No lap swim
  • No public access

“This impacts our students, families, seniors, and the entire community,” the group stated in their appeal to the public. “Our fall pool season depends on community action. Let’s not lose it.”

Looking Toward a Long-Term Solution
Beyond just saving the upcoming season, the survey is part of a larger effort to secure the facility’s future. The Honey Lake Valley Community Pool is currently exploring options to not only keep the doors open but also to expand programming.

One of the primary goals outlined in the survey is to gauge community support for moving toward a community-controlled special district. This shift would potentially provide stable funding and allow for local decision-making, ensuring the pool does not face these closure threats year after year.

What the Survey Asks
The survey is designed to gather specific data to guide planning and fundraising efforts. Specifically, organizers are looking to understand:

  • Who would utilize the pool during the fall season.
  • Public interest in expanding youth programs, specifically by lowering the minimum age to 13.
  • Community support for the potential creation of a special district to fund operations.

Organizers emphasize that the survey is for planning purposes only; it does not commit participants to any financial obligation, nor does it guarantee changes will be implemented immediately. However, the data is crucial for building a case to keep the facility operational.

How You Can Help
Let Them Swim is asking residents to fill out the short questionnaire and share it with friends, neighbors and family members to ensure a wide range of responses.

“Your responses will help us show real demand and build a case to keep the pool open this fall and beyond.”
