The Lassen Fire Safe Council has announced that it is resuming hazardous fuels reduction operations in the Paiute Lane area, both within and adjacent to upper Susanville Ranch Park.
Crews will focus on hand-thinning brush and small trees using chainsaws, followed by processing material with a track-mounted chipper.
The work is part of the larger North Susanville WUI Fuels Treatment Project, funded by a CAL-FIRE Wildfire Prevention Grant. The initiative is designed to reduce hazardous wildfire fuels across the landscape north of Susanville, establish and maintain strategic fuel breaks, and clear dead and dying hazard trees next to public and private infrastructure.
Spanning from Eagle Lake Road (County Road A-1) to upper Susanville Ranch Park near Paiute Lane, the project has already treated approximately 2,290 acres to mitigate wildfire risk.
Operations inside Susanville Ranch Park are slated to begin next week and are expected to run for up to two weeks. Work will take place Monday through Friday, from early morning through mid-afternoon.
While LFSC is making every effort to minimize disruptions to the public, park visitors and trail users are urged to exercise caution while crews and heavy equipment are active in the area.

The Lassen Fire Safe Council holds its regular monthly public meetings at 5:30p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month at the Susan River Fire Protection District station, located at 705-145 US Highway 395 in Susanville.
