The Lassen High School Drumline has been invited to perform at Lawlor Events Center in Reno February 1st, when UNR takes on league rival UNLV.
The group, who are also preparing for a trip to Disneyland in March, were asked to play throughout the football game, which will be televised nationwide on CBS.
Musical Director Ben Wade said that the percussionists are having to learn some new material for the Reno performance.
“We are working on a few songs specifically for time outs,” explains Wade.
“They play a specific hype song by Zombie Nation that we are going to work up, plus Final Countdown by Europe and Master of Puppets by Metallica.”
The drumline’s halftime performance, choreographed by Wade specifically for this UNR game, will be, “a really cool drumline cadence that starts slow but gets faster and faster called Train.”
Wade will kick-off the game playing his rendition of the national anthem, accompanied by the drumline.
“This is an honor for our drumline to participate in this event, there will be 20,000 people packed into the arena and the atmosphere will be electric!”
The game will start at 7:00p.m. on CBS.
Wade reports that fundraising for the drumline’s Disney trip is going full force and the kids are about 1/4 of the way to their goal.
Wade is also busy writing up the stage play and all the particulars that Disney Campus requires.
