LMUD Board Votes to Return Nearly $830,000 to District Ratepayers

The Lassen Municipal Utility District Board of Directors has moved to put money back into the pockets of utility’s customers, voting unanimously during their March 31st meeting to return nearly $830,000 to the district’s ratepayers.

The windfall comes in the form of two, one-time bill credits, funded by the district’s 2025 carbon credit allowances through California’s Cap and Invest program.

“LMUD is proud to return these funds directly to our customers,” said LMUD Board Treasurer Charity Moore.

“Our board is committed to responsible stewardship, and when there’s an opportunity to give back to the community we serve, we believe it’s the right thing to do.”

According to the district, customers can expect to see two separate $39 credits on their utility statements. The first will be issued in August 2026, followed by a second credit in November 2026. Both will appear as a specific line item on the bill.

As a community-owned, not-for-profit utility, LMUD officials stated that the decision aligns with their mission and core values of transparency and sustainability.

The district plans to keep the public updated on the credits through social media, the Lassen Ruralite, bill inserts, and the official LMUD website.

Residents with questions regarding the Climate Credit are encouraged to contact LMUD Public Relations Manager Theresa Phillips at 1.530.257.6944.
