Lassen Municipal Utility District is urging its Standish, Janesville and Litchfield area customers to conserve energy until further notice.
According to the utility’s Energy Services Manager Theresa Phillips the Standish substation, which serves over 1,200 customers, is experiencing difficulty keeping up with the increased demand for power. LMUD operations center is currently working on boosting the capacity of the substation.
In order for the Standish substation to handle the current load LMUD is asking customers to observe the following conservation measures:
- Set your air conditioner thermostat to 78 degrees.
- Use a ceiling fan or other fans to cool your home.
- Turn your water heater down to 120 degrees.
- Avoid using appliances such as your dishwasher, clothes washer and dryer until after 7pm.
- Keep windows and doors closed to prevent the loss of cool air.
- Avoid agricultural and residential water pumping between the peak hours of noon to 7pm.
LMUD’s ongoing plan is to replace the aging Standish substation with a more efficient, higher capacity substation. Known as the Lambert Sub, LMUD expects this facility to be fully operational sometime in the next 4 to 6 months.
“By working together to conserve energy,” said Phillips, “our customers can help us ensure that everyone has the power they need when they need it.”
