Some artistically inclined local youngsters have helped Lassen Municipal Utility District create a brand new poster campaign echoing the utility district’s safety motto – ‘Stay Clear and Stay Alive.’ The kid-created artwork will be featured in the Ruralite Magazine, on the LMUD’s website and Facebook pages and displayed in the lobby of the office on South Roop Street.
For more than a decade now the utility has worked with local kids, through electrical safety programs in the schools and art contests, to drive home the importance of respecting electricity, and staying clear, when emergencies happen.
Even a message as simple as ‘Don’t fly a kite near a utility pole’ can save a child’s life. The twelve winning poster entries remind kids that if your hat flies into power lines, lightning is crackling all around you or your yo-yo gets tangled in the lines you need to get clear and call LMUD.

LMUD also offers a High Voltage Safety Demonstration to groups, organizations and schools. The demonstration utilizes a state-of-the-art model and illustrates several different scenarios that help participants understand electrical hazards, how they can be identified and avoided.
Demonstrations are free and are performed year round as part of LMUD’s Public Benefits Program. Contact LMUD’s Energy Services Manager Theresa Phillips to schedule your group or visit the utility’s website at www.lmud.org for more information.
