The Pardee Professional Building

THE PARDEE PROFESSIONAL BUILDING, pictured above, located on the corner of Cottage and South Roop Streets in Susanville, is nearing completion. Construction of the building by James E. Pardee, local attorney, in partnership with Edward H. Ochinero, local contractor of Redding, began in the fall of 1971.
It presently houses at 600 Cottage St., James E. Pardee and his associate, Russell E. Templeton. At 107 S. Roop St., Dr. David H. Daehler, M.D., has opened his office for the general practice of medicine, and Dr. William Hildebrand, M.D., will remove his offices from 1801 First St. to 105 S. Roop St. in the new building starting July 1.
The completion of this new building by Mr. Pardee marks a span of 70 years between the first construction of an office building by the Pardee family.
In the year 1912, J. E. Pardee and J. A. (Gus) Pardee, grandfather and father of James E. Pardee, along with Ross E. Bangham, an uncle, constructed the Pardee Building located at 55 S. Lassen St., Susanville. This building was built to house a furniture store which was owned and managed by Mr. Bangham with the upper story to house the law offices of the late J. E. and J. A. Pardee.
Pictured at left in a picture taken in 1912 are Ross E. Bangham, J. E. Pardee and J. A. (Gus) Pardee. The building is now owned by Dale Soule, who occupied the upper story as a residence and rents the lower story for law offices. Ross Bangham was the father of Mrs. Evan Chappuis and Eber Bangham, Susanville’s fire chief.
On Friday, May 12, between 3 and 6 p. m. Mr. Pardee, Drs. Daehler and Hildebrand will have a grand opening of the professional building and their respective offices. They invite all of their clients, patients, friends and acquaintances to come and inspect their quarters and join them in refreshments. (Top photo, Eastman’s Studio)
