Lassen Lumber Company Leveled by Blaze
April 3rd, 1966

The Lassen Lumber and Box Co., which was closed in 1962, was leveled Sunday by fire.

More than 50 firemen from the Susan River District, City of Susanville and the California Division of Forestry battled the blaze for an hour before it was controlled.

Lost to the fire were the 48- year old factory, a 450 by 80-foot building; plus outbuildings and some saws. Approximately 400 feet of railroad siding must be replaced to restore service to the neighboring Orr Wood Products Co.

No estimate of loss was available from owner Walter Wirth, a resident of Idaho.
