Salt Distributed for Lassen Herds
April 8, 1950

Elmer Doty, Lassen County game warden, has just finished distributing nearly two tons of block salt in 50-lb. blocks to the deer over a wide area between Secret Valley and Red Rock. The project which took two weeks to complete, was done in a jeep which took him to places normally could not be reached in a car.

The salt was made available through Lassen County Sportsmen’s Conversation League, Mr. Doty said, and is placed out now because the deer herds are in the poorest condition of the year. They cannot get enough of the essential salt from natural licks because they are too few in this area.

While the deer in this particular area are in poor shape, those in the territory beyond Doyle are in a worse condition, Mr. Doty said.
