Thousand Men Hold Eagle Lake Fire in Check

Reports from the Eagle Lake fire front and from observations taken from the air, give hope that progress of the fire has been halted and the hundreds of men on the job will be able to hold it in check.
Since yesterday several hundred acres of timber between the road to the F. G. S. camp and the road to Christie’s resort have been burned over, the damaged area being variously estimated at from 1,200 to 3,000 acres.
Deputy State Forester G. C. Strickland, State Fire Chief Walter Coupe and Communications Technician Larry Ruth of the state forester’s office in Sacramento have been on the fire lending all assistance possible.
Westwood has sent 1,000 men to fight the flames, and eight bulldozers are in action. If the wind does not increase, it was believed late this afternoon that further spreading might be checked.
