NYC Summer Youth Program

NYC SUMMER YOUTH PROGRAM—Pictured above are a few of the young people who were hired through the Neighborhood Youth Corps (NYC) Summer Youth Program in Lassen County. Administered through Shasta County, the NYC Summer Program put 66 youths to work this summer in various jobs throughout the county.
The program is aimed towards providing job experience to economically disadvantaged persons, and pays the enrollees the minimum wage of $2.00 an hour for 240 hours per summer.
In addition to providing work experience to the enrollees, the NYC Summer Program also provides needed extra workers to public employers during the busy summer season.
NYC jobs include cleanup crews in the forests, recreation aides, clerical assistants, library aides, cook trainees and many more such positions.
$21,000 has been expended for summer enrollees in Lassen County this year. Further information concerning the NYC program may be obtained from the Neighborhood Youth Corps Office, 2460 Hospital Lane, Redding, CA 96001.
