L.L. and Box Whistle Will Blow Saws Buzz Tomorrow

The Lassen Lumber & Box mill whistle will blow tomorrow morning, calling to work many of those men who have waited two years for that “joyful noise.”
Harry Niepoth delivered the first logs last evening to the pond, routing them down Main street just to let Susanville know that the re-opening of the mill was really a fact. His truck drivers were “given a hand.”
For a brief time the mill will run one shift, but soon a second shift will be started in the sawmill and from then on the entire plant, box factory and all, will be brought into operation with shifts working 44 hours a week.
It is assured that the loggers in the Piute section will be able to keep ahead of the mill from now on. There are two or three days run of logs on hand—waiting a long time—and the logging operation will exceed the daily cut in the mill to assure a steady run until near the first of 1940.
