Walt Disney Filming Adventure Drama Near Susanville

THE WALT DISNEY Wonderful World of Color adventure drama, “Flight of the Grey Wolf”, scheduled to be shown on NBC during the fall of 1975, will complete its filming next week. The entire drama has been filmed in the Susanville area.
A scene where the wolf scatters a herd of sheep was filmed Wednesday, Aug. 28, in a meadow owned by Richard and Phyllis Tangeman, about two miles past Peter Lassen’s Monument. The above photo shows that shot being filmed under the watchful eyes of Director Frank Zuniga.
Actor Jeff East, 17, who plays young Russ Hanson in the two-part adventure drama said that 11 wolves used to portray Hanson’s pet wolf. East told the Advocate the reason for so many different wolves is that “some are better looking in the face for closeups, some look better when running, some work better with children and others are better for a fight scene with a dog.”
