Hotel Mt. Lassen Opens New Northwoods Room
May 23, 1976
The Hotel Mt. Lassen coffee shop is again open for business following an extensive remodeling program that has made its kitchen and dining facilities one of the most modern in northern California. The Northwoods Room, formerly the coffee shop, contains full dining facilities, including 10 modern, rustic, and western-styled booths according to Manager Phil Hess.
Banquet facilities have now been doubled. Chef Ken McFarland, who supervised the installation of the kitchen equipment, said “It’s the finest I’ve ever seen.”
Hotel owner Pete Briggs said the entire exterior surface of the hotel will be remodeled this summer “to create a western theme throughout.”
The entire first story of the hotel will be faced with used brick and the other two stories will be refinished.
All neon signs will be replaced with carved wooden signs and be lighted indirectly according to Briggs.
Hess said the interior motif of the Northwoods Room was designed to commemorate Lassen County’s historic ties with both the agriculture and lumber industries.
Massive cedar beams support the loft work upon which set many antique artifacts, indirectly illuminated.
The present hotel structure was rebuilt in 1948 following a fire in 1947. The original hotel was constructed in 1927.
