Lassen Deputy Demonstrates Modern Law Enforcement Communication
September 12, 1972
Deputy Tom Morrisey of the Lassen County Sheriff’s Department operates the telecommunicator unit at the Lassen County Jail during the graveyard shift.
The telecommunicator system, operated by the Bell System, is actually a connector between law enforcement agencies and law enforcement computers in Los Angeles, Sacramento and Washington, D. C. at top.
Morrissey punches a special code which tells the Sacramento computer what information he needs.
In the bottom photo, Morrissey takes a call on the “green phone” while dispatching a mobile unit on the radio.
The jail radio acts as dispatch for all law agencies in the county during the swing and graveyard shifts as well as the weekends when the CHP and police department dispatches are closed. (Advocate photos).
