Funds Assure Fire Protection
December 1, 1940

With raising of more than $700 by popular subscription in the residential districts outside the city limits, permanent fire protection is assured that area, according to members of the Johnstonville Grange of which Mrs. Sarah Buffum is master.

The money, secured by popular subscription by Supervisor Tro Emerson, member of the grange, not only assures the use of seven state forestry division fire trucks and keeps two paid men in call at all times, but forms the nucleus for including a similar sum annually in the county budget for fire protection in nearby rural districts.

The state forestry in the past has discontinued fire protection service with the end of the hazardous summer season. The interest shown in providing fire protection will result in the tax payers of the district dividing the burden thereafter.
