Local Man Held Up and Robbed by Three Youthful Bandits During Dance at Cindercone
December 12, 1938
Fred Frick, assistant manager of the Sierra Theater, was held up and robbed by three masked bandits as he was leaving a dance at Cindercone.
He was forced to give up his wallet, containing $23, although they missed some loose change and a watch.
According to the story told Sheriff Olin S. Johnson, which was not reported until 10 o’clock this morning, Frick was accosted by three young men, all wearing handkerchiefs over their faces, and one carrying a gun.
He was told to drive down the road for several miles in his car, which he did.
After the men took his wallet, Frick was told to walk back to the dance hall and his car would be found there. The men then fled in Frick’s car. After a long walk back to Standish, Frick found his car as he had been told.
Sherriff Johnson said that from the men’s actions, which were very nervous, they appeared to be amateurs at the business. There was a possibility that they had been drinking and had planned the move on the spur of the moment.
An extensive search is being conducted for the thieves.
